Cast A Spell

You are the final ingredient! There is power in the words that you speak and the ideas you think.

When you take time to express your reflections you cast a spell for your creations. Get it out of your head, onto the page, or into the atmosphere. It all gets mixed into the potion of the pictures we will make. The good, the bad, the ugly, the weird, the awkward, the beautiful. It’s all a part of it! Your reflections won’t be shared with anyone, they are just for you.

If it feels good to have an additional witness, drop any reflections you’d like to share with me in the box at the bottom of the page. Otherwise, consider it a secret between you and the photo gods, hehe.

For writing…

What part of me that has been hidden in the past is asking to be seen now?

WHERE OR WHO CAN I DRAW SUPPORT FROM?

Call or text a friend and tell them about your upcoming shoot! Community care is vital when preparing to step into the unknown. Take time to refer to any resources that help you feel inspired and supported (a book, a quote, a film, a special meal, the list can go on!)

WHAT REMAINING FEELING FEELS IMPOSSIBLE TO ADMIT OR EXPRESS RIGHT NOW BUT NEEDS TO BE SAID?

Write it down, then delete it! Or burn it! Or keep it and read it and allow yourself to bear witness to the thing that is secretly haunting you.

SET AN INTENTION!

Anything you want to leave behind? Anything you want to bring with you?.

For Speaking…

Before this process started I felt…

Now that we’re in the middle of things I feel…

I’m worried that…

I’M MOSTLY LOOKING FORWARD TO…”

I’m really curious about

I’m afraid I might…

I’M SURPRISED THAT…

I want to challenge myself by…

I give myself permission to…

Something that I’m looking forward to is…

I’m noticing that…

I’m proud of myself for…

My favorite part of what I’ve dreamt up so far is…

Overthinking?

If journaling doesn’t feel quite right, here are other ways to cast a spell…

  • Go for a drive and scream

  • Go for a walk and record a voice memo

  • Call a friend, tell them what you are doing, ask for encouragement, or ask if you can process or vent

  • Watch a movie that inspires you

  • Draw a messy picture

  • Write a bad poem

  • Write a future letter to yourself to open after the portrait session is over

  • Write a letter from your future self telling you exactly how it went, what advice would they give you?

  • If all you did was read through this entire page—that is enough.

Sometimes it feels good to tell one person, if you’d like that person to be me, feel free to share anything you want to below!

Your spells won’t be shared publicly.

I’M PROUD OF YOU.
